Does vinegar go bad? How can I tell?Updated 2 months ago
Vinegar doesn’t go "bad" in the same way other foods do, but its flavor can change over time. Vinegar has a long shelf life because of its high acidity, which helps preserve it. That said, it may lose some of its flavor intensity or become a little less vibrant after years of storage, especially if not stored properly.
Here’s what to look out for:
Color changes: If your vinegar has changed color or looks cloudy, it might be time to replace it.
Off smells: Vinegar should smell tangy and slightly sharp. If it starts to smell rancid or overly sour, it’s probably past its prime.
Taste: If it tastes off or less acidic than usual, the flavor profile may have faded.
Olivelle Tip: Our vinegars are super fresh and harvested with care. For the best flavor and nutrition, use them within 12–18 months of opening. You’ll taste the difference!
